The score (with the extra point) would've been 24-13 well into the 3rd quarter and Miami would've gotten a huge surge of momentum. Washington would've been forced to the air to play catchup against the best pass defense of the time, and Riggins wouldn't have been able to grind down the Killer B's like he did in the fourth quarter. Even though the Miami O was playing poorly, they would've gotten the ball more and had more chances to at least run the ball and eat up the clock. Theismann had a better day than the previous two quarterbacks that had faced the Killer B's (Dan Fouts and Richard Todd) but his role that day was more successful as a game manager than as a passer. If this play had gone Miami's way, and with a little more help from Miami's offense (and particularly more opportunities to get the ball) the Dolphins could've very well have won this one.
